Automatically filter known bots and spiders from Google Analytics

How much of your traffic is actual human visitors and how much of your traffic is really scrapers, bots, and other web spiders? Google Analytics to the rescue!

Google Analytics (GA) provides an easy filter to traffic from that of bots and other spiders, assisting with analysis of real human traffic. Simply toggle a checkbox and GA will filter out all the traffic from known bots.

GA is using a list of known bots pulled from the IAB/ABC International spiders & Bots List, a list the Interactive Advertising Bureau has been maintaining since 2006.

The list of spiders and bots typically costs $14,000, though IAB members receive a discount.

How to Filter Bots out of your Google Analytics reports

Login to your GA account, select Admin / View, to access View Settings. Select "Bot Filtering" to exclude all hits from known bots and spiders.
